Participatory Theatre

Description

Participatory theatre is a valuable tool for promoting a change of vision and behavior. Participatory theater breaks the "fourth wall" that traditionally separates the performer from the audience both physically and verbally. Performances happen amidst audience members, and involve the audience in active roles.

The cultural tradition in most West African countries conceives migration as a necessary transition before adulthood. Young men are encouraged to dare irregular migration and linked risks and perils in order to turn into the figure of a hero migrant who no longer fits the reality of today. Trained specialized comedians dramatized performances seeking to build the image of young national workers that participate in the socio-development of their countries of origin as new “heroes”.
